Simulating Desert Scenery
An algorithm for simulating wind-ripples and moving sand is extended by the detection of fixed objects. This permits us simulation and animation of sand interacting with objects like houses, highways, cactuses, etc. Sand is accumulated on the windward side of an obstacle and the sand relocation and wind-ripples formation is diminished on the leeward side. The wind shadow depends on the object’s...
متن کاملScenery Flow, Conical Densities, and Rectifiability
We present an application of the recently developed ergodic theoretic machinery on scenery flows to a classical geometric measure theoretic problem in Euclidean spaces. We also review the enhancements to the theory required in our work. Our main result is a sharp version of the conical density theorem, which we reduce to a question on rectifiability.
متن کاملAngular momentum transport in a multicomponent solar wind with differentially flowing, thermally anisotropic ions
Context. The Helios measurements of the angular momentum flux L of the fast solar wind lead to a tendency for the fluxes associated with individual ion angular momenta of protons and alpha particles, Lp and Lα, to be negative (i.e., in the sense of counter-rotation with the Sun). However, the opposite holds for the slow wind, and the overall particle contribution LP = Lp + Lα tends to exceed th...
متن کاملAndalusia, Spain: An Assessment of Coastal Scenery
The 1101 km length of the Andalusian coast (Spain) was assessed for coastal scenery at 45 specific locations. Selected areas covered resort (3), urban (19), village (8), rural (10) and remote (5) bathing areas. Scenery was analyzed for physical and human parameters via 26 selected parameters. These parameters were obtained by interviews of 4500 people on European beaches. Each parameter was ass...
متن کاملWater Flowing and Shaking Optimization
This paper proposes a novel optimization algorithm inspired by water flowing and shaking behaviors in a vessel. Water drops in our algorithm flow to the gradient descent direction and are sometimes shaken for getting out of local optimum areas when most water drops fall in local optimum areas. These flowing and shaking operations allow our algorithm to quickly approach to the global optimum wit...
